Reprise Coffee Roasters, based in Lake Forest, Illinois, are Bronze Medalist winners for Espresso (Milk Based) 2016 after entering their award-winning coffee Jairo Reds. The competition entered is Compak Golden Bean North America based in Portland, Oregon. In this competition, over 700 different coffee roasters from North America entered their coffees.
Red Catuai coffee from Jinotega, Nicaragua is grown at an altitude: 1460 meters. It’s tasting notes include chocolate-covered Cherries and pineapple juice medium+ body.
Jairo and his family are just 2nd year coffee producers that are partnered with a social enterprise called Gold Mountain Coffee Growers, geared toward making an impact at origin through high cupping coffees. Jairo and his family also grow celery, broccoli, potatoes and carrots. What makes his coffee different from others is that he has full traceability of all varietals on his farm allowing him to cultivate intentional coffees. His coffee first made an appearance at 2016 SCAA Barista Competition and advanced to the final round. Later this year, Reprise Coffee Roasters roasted and submitted it to the biggest roasting competition in the world. It stood out among 800 of the continent’s finest coffees available today and was rewarded with a bronze medal in the espresso category. This coffee also thrives prepared through filter and cold brew techniques.
